Hello Parents,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. I finish moving and have two rooms completely unpacked. :) Last week we worked on homophones and completed Write Score assessments. This week students will be learning about theme in a text and students will be finishing up their narrative writing they have been working on all semester! Students will be working on a theme project this week, and they will need an empty 2-liter bottle, milk jug, or juice container. Students will need these by Wednesday. Please encourage your child to take SRC assessments when they are finished with a book. Students can take these at home. The link is on the school website under STUDENTS-EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE LINKS-it is on the right hand side of the page. Students logins are the lunch number and the password is 123456Sae. Don't forget if you have a conference this week to please show up on time. I respect your time, so please knock if it is your time for your conference. Conferences go from this Wednesday to next Friday. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you and have a great week! Look forward to speaking with everyone in the next couple of weeks! Kara

Hello Parents,
I hope everyone had a good week! I know we did! This week we worked on developing story ARCs and writing drafts. The students are getting so creative. It is fun to watch them create these narratives! We also worked on text structures in informational texts. Students learned about compare and contrast, chronological order, problem and solution, and cause and effect. Today students either played a game on text structures or they got to read fun National Geographic articles and decide what text structures they were. The students had a lot of fun with both activities. We took our vocabulary assessment after we played a Quizlet game in teams. Please make sure you are going over the vocabulary with your child every night. Next week we will be working on our narratives and hopefully will start publishing. I will introduce Frequently Confused Words (homophones). Students will be taking the Write Score Assessment (paper/pencil) on Wednesday and Thursday, so please have your child at school well rested and fed by the bell. Friday is Career Day and some parents are coming in from 12-2 to discuss their career. I will be out on Friday. I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! And as always, please let me know if you have any questions by email, phone, or agenda! Kara Merck Hello Parents and Students,
I hope everyone had a great weekend! I started packing out apartment. We will be moving at the end of the month. Thank you to everyone who donated to our classroom library from teh book fair this week. The students LOVED having new books! The book fair was a great sucess! Last week in class we worked on writing using a story arc, and discussed character delveopment in Narrative Writing. We started on structure in informational texts. Students will continue to learn about Text Structures this week. We took our STAR reading assessment last week as well. This week we will continue to work on Narrative Writing and Text Structures. Students will take an assessment on Text Structures on Friday. We will have vocabulary, study island, and reading as homework this week. On Thursday, our class will take the Write Score writing assessment on the computer. This assessment is a great way for your child to see what he or she does well in writing, and what he or she needs to work on. It helps me write lessons to help improve on specific writing deficits. As always, if you have any questions you can contact me through email, agenda, and phone. Have a wonderful week! Kara Merck Hello Parents and Students,
I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend! I will be on a plane to Indianapolis on Friday afternoon to see my little sister. I hope you have some fun plans!
