Hello Parents,
I hope everyone had a great weekend! In reading, we are continuing with comparing and contrasting themes in Traditional Literature. We will discuss Point of View and comparing and contrasting different Point of Views using the George Washington VS King George III book. We will continue with Georgia Milestones Practice by constructing responses based on two texts. In writing, students will learn about progressive verbs and elaboration. Students will learn and have practice on the elaboration in informational, opinion, and narrative writing. See our homework page for updated homework for this week. Also, if you aren't already, please follow me on Twitter: @MrsKaraAMerck! I try to update it every few days with pictures of things we are doing in class. If you haven't visited our class Wish List yet, please click on the WISH LIST at the top right hand side of the page. Thank you for everyone who has bought pencils, timers, color pencils, ect from our Wish List! The kids love when we get new items for our classroom. I hope everyone has a great week, and if you didn't binge watch Fuller House on Netflix yet... you should! :) Thank you! Kara Merck

Hello Parents and Students,
This week we are wrapping up historical book clubs. Today students created a "Facebook" page where they summarized their book. Students also learned about the steps to complete when creating a constructed response. This is going to prepare them for the Georgia Milestones that are coming up quickly. Later this week students will compare and contrast Folktales. Students will have the opportunity to read various folktales! Students will also finish up their February Book Challenge this week! Students set a monthly goal and have been reading to make sure they make it! A few reminders: Zoo Field Trip money was due last Friday! We are almost out of pencils. I have added this to Our Wish List at the top of this page. If you wouldn't mind sending in a pack that would be awesome! Thank you! Thank you, Kara Merck Hey Parents and Students,
Student Led Conferences went so well! I am so proud of everything we have accomplished this year in 4th grade, and can't wait to continue what we have started! If you and your child didn't come to Student led Conferences, I will send home the information we discussed in Friday Folders. This next week we will be learning about poetry (similes, metaphors, idioms, adages, and proverbs). Students will also continue working on their historical fiction book club. Reminder the Zoo Field Trip forms are due Friday February 19th. Thank you so much! Have a wonderful week, Kara Merck Hey Parents and Students,
I hope everyone had a great weekend! I hosted my sisters baby shower. I can't wait to meet my sweet nephew in a few months. Last week we worked on our National Parks informational writing. Students also started their new historical fiction book clubs. Since this week is a short week, students will be completing their National Parks informational writing as homework. Students do not have any other reading or ELA homework for this week. Today we worked on making sure all student led conference papers were ready for Thursday. Students asked any questions they had, and I am excited to see you and your child here on Thursday. The rest of the week we are working on synonyms and antonyms, and reading our historical fiction book club book. Reminders: Thursday February 11th-Student Led Conferences at your appointed time. Friday February 12th-No school for students. Friday February 19th-Deadline for Zoo Field Trip forms and money. I hope everyone has a great week and please let me know if you have any questions. Kara Merck Hello Parents and Students!
I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine consisted of laundry and cleaning... hopefully yours was more fun than mine! Last week we finished up the Write Score assessment. Students finished up their book club choice books and started on their movie trailers. This week students started a new historical fiction book club! Students either started George Washington's Socks, Guns for General Washington, or Daniel at the Siege of Boston. Students read their allotted chapters, answered their historical fiction question, and then "tweeted" their summary of what has happened so far. Students have also continued with their informational writing on their National Park. ZOO INFORMATION Hey Parents! We need more chaperones for Mrs. Merck's homeroom. If you can chaperone, we would love to have you! Please let me know if you can join us! Also, don't forget Zoo money and permission slips are due February 19th. Reminders: February 11th-Student Led Conferences February 12th-No School for students February 15th-No School Thank you all so much! Have a great week! Kara Merck |
