Hello Parents and Students,
I hope everyone is staying safe and warm in this crazy weather. Last week we finished up Write Score testing. As soon as those come back I will let you know and send a report. Also students finished up their Biography Cube Project and turned those in. Students also started answering journal responses for homework. The first one is due tomorrow. As a class we will look at the passage and question(s) and think about how other students answered the question. Students will use this as a learning tool to make their answers better. This week we are learning about Point of View, Adages and Proverbs, and Comparing and Contrasting Themes in folktales and fables. On Thursday February 26th we will take the Reading/ELA checkpoint assessment. Please make sure your child gets a good nights rest, eats breakfast, and is here on time. Thank you! This Friday will be the last day I will be accepting any late or make-up work. Students know if they have anything to make up, and I remind them everyday what they are to be working on in their free time or for homework. If you have any questions please let me know. I am happy to say everyone is going on the Zoo Field Trip! Thank you to everyone for getting the forms and money in on time! Also thank you for those parents who are going to "rough it" with us and chaperone the trip. I am so excited! This week's homework is reading 100 minutes, journal response (students will receive a new one on Wednesday), and vocabulary packet. As always if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please let me know! Kara Adams

Hello Parents and Students,
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. I definitely enjoyed the 4 day weekend. I cleaned my house and did laundry. (I know super exciting!!) Unfortunately, we didn't get snow! Today students started on their Write Score assessment. These will hopefully show us how much growth the students have made since the August Write Score. After those score return, we will send you the results. Those results will be an excellent indicator of what your student still needs to work on in writing. We will continue to work on the Write Score assessment tomorrow as well. Students will also work on finishing their Biography Cubes on their influential African American. Students will turn these in on Friday. There isn't any reading or Study Island homework this week. Students will have a journal response question to answer. Students will have until next Wednesday to complete this. If you have not filled out the field trip form and sent in the money, it is due this Friday, February 20. I posted a PowerPoint about the field trip last week. Please look there for more information. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. We have 7 chaperones so far but always welcome more parents to chaperone! I look forward to going on the Zoo trip!! As always, I hope everyone has a great rest of the week. Thank you, Kara Adams Hello parents,
This week we are starting a new unit on poetry. Students must learn the difference between prose, poetry, and drama. They must also point out poetry elements within a poem. The elements we are learning are: rhyme, rhythm (meter), repetition, line, and stanza. The students will also choose a favorite poem and practice it throughout the week to say for a fluency grade next Wednesday. Students will also review types of figurative language such as simile and metaphor. We will be briefly discussing other types, however the other types are not fourth grade standards. In writing, students will create a Black History Month cube. The students will research an African-American that has made a significant impact on our culture. The cube will be an in class project, but students may need to work on it some at home. Here is the rubric for the project. Students should have the name of their African-American today unless they are absent. The cubes will be shared on Friday (hopefully). If you haven't sent in your permission slips/ money for the zoo field trip that is due by 2/20. We MUST pay the zoo the full amount owed to them 30 days before our arrival date. Please let me know if your student will not be attending the field trip so I can remove him/her from my list. The grade level is also in need of chaperones. If you are AT ALL interested in chaperoning, please do! We took over 30 adults with us last year and that helped make the trip so successful. If you want to chaperone (and we do need chaperones), then you MUST have a background check completed by the Fulton County School Police. All of that information is in the PowerPoint as well. Don't wait until the last minute with the background checks! We will also have a Valentine's Day exchange. Students need to bring in some type of bag/box and their valentines already completed. We will give them the last 20 minutes of the day on Friday 2/13 to hand out their valentines. Students should have one for every member of our class. I will send home a class list today and also attach it to the homepage of our website. I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Please let me know if you have any questions. Homework- 100 reading minutes, vocabulary packet and quiz Friday. Finish Informational Writing-Gatorade Paper. Kara Adams |
