Hello Parents and students,
We had a great week last week welcoming Fall and the cooler weather. This week we will be learning about Theme in a story. Students will used character, setting, and plot to figure out themes of different stories. At the end of the week students will be creating "Theme in a Bottle." This project requires a clean plastic bottle (2-liter) or jug of some sort. Each students needs one bottle to complete the project. If you have extras, please send those in, as well! Thank you! We will also be finishing up our Rain Drop narratives this week. The writings are turning out very creative. Students will continue working out of their choice books (library books) this week. Students will answer response questions on their book. Reminders: Conferences are coming up. I will be sending out an email with everyone's dates and times. :) This Tuesday, students will be presenting their Native American Presentations that they have been working so hard on for the past few weeks. As always, if you need me, you can call, email, or write a note in the agenda. Thank you, Kara Adams

Hello Students and Parents,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. This week we will continue working on our narrative writing in first person. I can't wait until the students are finished with them; they are being so creative. You will get to see it on conference night! We will be working on response to literature using our own Just Right books. Students can choose a book from the school or classroom library or one from home. Each student received his or her Lexile Level on Friday and each student made a goal to increase their level by December. On Tuesday, students will complete their Native American presentations and on Tuesday September 30th, students will do their presentations in front of their classmates. On Thursday, students will be taking the Write Score writing assessment in their reading class. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast that morning! I have made a Quizlet the vocabulary words this week. The links are under the Homework section. I hope everyone has a great week. Thank you, Ms. Kara Adams Hello Parents and Students,
This week has gone beautifully. We reviewed text features and finished our realistic fiction writing. Students will be learning about text structures next week and will learn how to use information from their science classes to write a narrative story. I can't wait to see what they come up with! Make sure you are signing your child's agenda every night and that he or she has written how many minutes he or she has read and what they have read down. Make sure your child works on their Study Island assignments every week and that they work until they receive a blue ribbon. A few reminders: Don't forget BYOT starts on Monday, there will be a meeting that morning to give parents more information. Also, Picture Day is on Friday, September 19th. I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. I sure enjoyed my extra day off! This week we do not have vocabulary because it is a short week. You can always click on the OUR CLASS tab and then click on HOMEWORK to see what our homework is for the week. We will continue working on our realistic fiction narratives this week. We will learn how to revise and edit using the correct marks. Today we are going over simple and compound sentences with a comma and coordinating conjunction, and tomorrow we will have a quiz over compound and simple sentences. Students will also continue working on their stations. Hopefully SRC will be up and running this week, so students can take their SRC quiz on their Book Club book. We will not start a new Book Club book this week. Reminders: Tonight is family night at the book fair from 5-7. Our book fair day is tomorrow Wednesday, September 3rd from 8:20-8:40. I hope everyone has a great week! DREAM BIG! Ms. Kara Adams |
