Hello Students and Parents,
I'm sure the students told you how great Paul Revere was on Friday. The students were definitely engaged and were great participants. The students in both classes have made their January reading challenge and goals! Look on my Twitter @MsKaraAdams for some photos. On Thursday, February 5 the students will wear pajamas, bring pillows, a stuffed animal (that can fit into their backpacks) and their favorite book. We will have hot cocoa for them and a treat or two. If you have a special treat in mind that you would like to send in, let me know. This week we will start historical fiction novels for our social studies unit on the American Revolution. Students will be assigned a novel based on reading level. The novels are: Dear America, Five Smooth Stones Hope's Diary, Daniel At The Siege of Boston, 1776, Guns for General Washington, and My Brother Sam is Dead. The students will also have historical fiction based response questions to answer while they read. They will meet in a book club to discuss the books and compare/contrast them to real accounts of the war. We are also going to make book trailers using iMove, Animoto, Photostory 3, or Windows Movie Maker to show what the students learned about their books they just finished. The rubrics for those along with helpful materials can be found on my website under reading. The students will create these book trailers with their book club and we will have a movie premiere on Friday. In writing, we will continue our unit on informational (expository) writing. After a guided lesson, students will use a Write Score passage to gather information, take notes, and create their response. This is great practice for the Georgia Milestone, not to mention a great real-life skill! Homework: 100 Reading minutes, Vocabulary packet and quiz Friday, Students will finish their informational writing-Due Wednesday Thank you, Kara

Students, watch this Prezi presentation. Use the arrows to maneuver through. Watch the videos of examples as well. Have this completed by Monday January 26, so we can begin making the book trailers. If you would like to view this Prezi on an iPad, please download the iPad app: Prezi App Hello Parents and Students, Parents if you had the day off yesterday I hope it was relaxing! I volunteered at Fernbank Natural History Museum in their forest. We were taking out the invasive species Monkey Grass. I also went hiking with some friends.... I hope everyone had a great weekend. There isn't any vocabulary this week. Students will need to read 75 minutes and complete Study Island's Editing and Taking Notes. Students are still working towards their class reading goals. Look below to see where everyone is! Thank you and have a great week!
![]() Hello Parents and Students, We had a good week back! I was a little under the weather, but I am starting to feel a little better. We started on a new Book Club this week. Students had a choice of what book they wanted to read. They got into groups, read, and answered questions. Students will continue to work in Book Clubs next week. Students started researching a specific topic in the Revolutionary War. Students are researching and drafting. Next week students will continue to draft, revise, and edit. At the beginning of the week students made a personal New Year's Resolution and a reading goal for the month. Below are some pictures of their Resolutions. As a class the students pledged to read 74 books in the first block class and 111 books in the second block class. As students read they will put a picture of their book outside of our classroom and shade in a piece of the gauge! I hope both classes make their goal because there is a fun treat in store if they do!! We have some classroom needs: We are in need of #2 pencils and glue sticks! Thank you!! Hope everyone had a great first full week of the new year! Kara Adams Happy New Year Parents and Students!
I just wanted to say that I was SO overwhelmed with love, gifts, hugs, and smiles on the Friday before we left for break. I can't even start to explain how much I appreciate each and everyone one of you and your children! A little bit about my break: I spent it with friends and family. My fiancé, Nick, and I used the gift card from the class to bye Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Brunch groceries! Thank goodness Nick is a good cook!! :) I also got a little bit of wedding planning done (well we chose a honeymoon destination, that is about it). Overall, it was a nice relaxing time off, but I am glad to be back in my routine again! This week is a short week, so no vocabulary packet. Students do have missing Study Island assignments they will be making up this week. I have a list, and I will tell each student what to work on this week. Students also have 75 minutes of reading. I hope everyone had a great holiday and New Year! We are focusing on goal making this week in reading and ELA. Students will have the opportunity to create personal and reading goals. I can't wait to see what each student chooses for his or her goals!! I hope everyone had a great week!! As always DREAM BIG!! Ms. Kara Adams |
