Hello Parents,
I hope everyone had a great weekend! I went to Lake Seed with some friends, and it was super relaxing. This week we do not have vocabulary because it is a short week. Students will have 25 minutes of reading every night. Please make sure you are signing their agenda every night, and that your child has their book name and how many minutes read on each day. This week students will conclude historical fiction book clubs. Students have until Thursday to finish their book and answer all of their response questions. If your child is a little behind in class, you might see him/her bring home the book and/or reading response questions as well. When students finish their book and questions, they will take their SRC (Scholastic Reading Counts) assessment online at school. Students have to make a 70 to pass. Students will have up to 3 times to take the assessment. Students are encouraged to take the book and questions home to review. In grammar this week we are discussing subject and predicate. Ask your child about the silly sentences he or she made. In writing we will be working our narrative writing piece. We will also discuss revising and editing in detail. On Wednesday we will go to the book fair from 8-8:20 to preview the book selections. Next Wednesday we will go at the same time to shop. Also, this Thursday is Grandparents Day from 9-9:30. I hope everyone has a great week and a wonderful Labor Day weekend!! Kara Merck

Hello Parents and Students,
We had an awesome second week! I hope everyone feels the same! As a 4th grade we have been talking being responsible, being respectful, and ready to learn. We have modeled what that behavior should look like. Fourth grade is a year with many more responsibilities, and as a grade level we have high expectations. Please talk with your child about the expectations we have at Sweet Apple. The more dialogue we have with them the better this year will be!!! This week we started developing our main character in our narrative writing. We discussed character traits and outside appearance of a character. Next week we will discuss how to finish up brainstorming, start writing, and learn how to revise and edit with our writing partners. Students will continue to review grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. As a class we will continue with book clubs and response questions. Students will be reading their book in class. Last but not least, it was so nice to see everyone who came to Curriculum Night. If you did not have the opportunity to come and sign-up for a conference, I have the below dates and times still available. Kara Hello Parents and Students,
We had a very successful first week! Even if I was at jury duty on Monday! :) We reviewed some grammar, writing, and reading standards this week. Each student picked their Genre Book Challenge for the year. Students also started their reading interactive notebook, and we put in our character traits notes. We also had a lot of fun today completing a character trait game and a genre book project. I believe this school year is going to be great! Please go over the school rules with your child and make sure they understand them. You can find these in the Handbook. I use hyperlinks throughout my webpage. If it shows up orange it is probably linked to a website! Please feel free to look around our class website there is information on each tab.
